Dr. Shuzaburo Takeda of the Business-University Forum of Japan invited Roundtable leaders to participate in Forum’s Innovation Summit in May 2008 and discuss exchange possibilities. Executive director James Harvey represented the Roundtable. The Summit brought together leaders of government, business, academia, G-8 countries and Asia to think about the role of education in charting the future. Harvey also joined a panel at Tokyo University to discuss the remarkably similar challenges facing Japan and the United States in maintaining their leadership positions in STEM fields.

We are joining the growing chorus of concerned educators in support of demanding that congress enact commonsense solutions to the crisis of gun violence in America’s schools. It is time that public officials at the national and state levels rise to the occasion and enact the necessary legislation to address this issue, before another student and/or educator is tragically lost due to continued inaction.

A new survey by the National Superintendents Roundtable confirms that many school superintendents encountered so much over-the-top rage amidst the COVID-19 pandemic that they wrestled with whether to continue in their jobs. Responses from 400 district leaders over the summer shed light on the intense pressure school leaders are experiencing amidst the pandemic.
